WebJul 19, 2024 · Been using CFE Pistol for all my 9mm reloading, but I’ve recently switched entirely to 147gr Hi-Tek Coates bullets. I prefer the recoil impulse and how quiet it is when shot suppressed. But I don’t have any experience with any other pistol powder. Are there better alternatives in terms of cleaner burning powders? WebFeb 1, 2024 · CFE pistol has a relatively slow burn rate. Not what you want for light powder-puff loads. 9mm is a very light recoiling caliber especially in a Glock 17 or 19. If you ever plan on using the gun for defensive purposes it's good to learn how to become proficient with full power ammo.

As far as powders that may be suitable, I have gobs of 3n37, n340, AA7, CFE Pistol. I have some faster pistol powders, but generally those create low amounts of muzzle to chamber pressure, which is why they are enjoyable to shoot.

I am planning to make the trip and try to get 2 jugs of the powder and a carton of primers, maybe more if I can scrape together more cash.
WebAug 29, 2024 · CFE Pistol and Longshot are excellent for 9mm and 45ACP, all bullet weights. I buy them in 8# jugs, order at least 1 of each when I crack open my last 8 pounder of either. Pre crisis, CFE-P was usually $10-$20 cheaper per 8# than most powders. Both powders perform better near the high end of charge weights, especially Longshot.
